Taking a Stand Against Bullying:
A Parent’s Guide

by Master Lyle

About the Book

Bullying and the effects of its violence cause a tremendous amount of stress and suffering for children, making it vital for parents, teachers, friends, family members, and children to take a STAND. A guide in helping children win the battle against bullying, this book features tips that have helped thousands of children build up confidence, increase their self-esteem, establish bridges of communication with their parents, and better understand bullying and its effects.

From recognizing when bullying is occurring to discerning whether or not your child is the bully themselves, this book lays out, in simple terms, the root of bullying and how to talk to kids about it. The author, who was bullied himself as a child, peppers the content with his own personal experiences in facing and overcoming childhood bullying, and tells how having an open dialogue with young children can turn bystanders, who ignore or participate in bullying, into upstanders who stand against it. The book also includes an interactive workbook that parents can explore with their kids.

Praise for ‘Taking A Stand Against Bullying’

“Bullying is a worldwide epidemic that has always badly impacted children to extent that many kids, according the United Nations data, have committed suicide as a result. The United Nations in general and UNICEF in particular, support education for parents, such as this parents guide. I applaud the author and the techniques shown in this book on how Karate teachings help children gain self-confidence and take a stand against bullying. I am sure this book will help millions of children who deal with bullying daily to stand tall!”
UN Ambassador, His Excellency, Dr. Waheed Waheedullah

“Master Lyle teaches self-discipline, self-control, and the importance of respecting others. We are so grateful that Master Lyle has been a support in raising our daughter, and are excited to know that his book can help other parents equip their kids with the tools they need to live confident lives.

“Enthusiasm is highly contagious, but let me sincerely say that Master Lyle’s enthusiasm is most contagious! His drive creates an extremely warm response for the entire class. The information [he provides is] most important and certainly adds to a class. His positive demeanour and speech presentation makes for a totally successful guest speaker educational experience for both class and instructor alike.”

In accordance with his book’s official release, Master Lyle hosted a book signing and pledge to his “I Stand” campaign, which saw a great turnout from community members of Genesee County.
Davison, MI— Attendees joined Master Lyle in the PSKA karate studio on Saturday afternoon; sitting cross-legged on mats, many were already thumbing through the workbook as their brand new copies of Taking A Stand sat in their laps.

As the author explained at the signing, the premise of the book was not so much to provide kids with self-defense, but to teach kids how to find their confidence. The book, which officially released on Amazon on February 1st, is geared for parents with kids in kindergarten up until grade four, and aims to prevent bullying by empowering kids to find their sense of self-worth at an early age.

Master Lyle, dressed like many of his peers in a karategi, stood next to a large poster breaking down just how members of the campaign could take a stand against bullying. It listed:

Speak up for myself and others

Team up with a buddy

Accept others for who they are

Notify a trusted adult

Demonstrate courage

The 5th Degree Black Belt Master turned author received great feedback from the community, with a couple hundred parents and kids coming out to support the pledge and pick-up a signed copy of  the Amazon bestseller.

The event was featured in the Davison paper, as well as appearing on the local evening broadcast on ABC 12.

Over 150 participants signed the pledge to “Stand Tall”; Master Lyle hopes  to get even more parents and kids involved in the campaign as he begins his US book tour through the spring of 2015.
